Get Involved

Joining Young Labor means you will be a member of the broader Australian Labour Movement – a movement which has fought proactively for over 150 years for workers’ rights, fairness, decency, social justice and a greater Australia.

As a member of the Labour Movement’s youth wing you will be exposed to a broad spectrum of experiences and opportunities. Whether your interests lie in advocating for workers’ rights through the union movement, campaigning for Labor Governments, fighting for social justice, getting active on campus or campaigning for the issues that matter to you – NSW Young Labor is the place for you.

Campaigning for a better future

Campaigning for a better future is more than just hollow slogans – it is about the Young Labor activists of today taking on the issues that matter, fighting for change and letting their experiences define them as the leaders of tomorrow.

Our campaigns have helped to bring an end to mandatory detention for children, to establish youth radio station Triple-J and to abolish full-fee charges for domestic students attending University.

Young Labor campaigned successfully in the recent Federal Election on 21 August, 2010. The election campaign was a chance to have our say and to shape the direction that our country is heading in.

We helped to re-elect our first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard and stopped Tony Abbott from taking us backwards.

Policy Caucuses

As young Australians we can make a real difference in our local community, our country and the world. We care about the issues that count and we are willing to do something about it.

Joining Young Labor means you are part of a group of young people who share your interests and actively fight for the issues you believe in.

Being part of the Australian Labor Party also means your views will shape the policies of the largest political party in the country.

If you are passionate about a policy area you can join the relevant policy caucus and shape Young Labor’s policy direction. There are also regular Young Labor Youth Council meetings which provide a formal arena to discuss issues including foreign affairs, education, health, industrial relations and the economy.
