Young Labor Women

The Young Labor Women's Network facilitates young women's involvement in the Labor Party. Participation provides a great opportunity to share skills and resources.

The Women's Network holds informal events each month. These events include discussion forums, social gatherings, guest speaker nights and our annual Women's Dinner and are designed to be supportive for young women who want to get involved.

“A Federal Labor Government will give Australian women a better deal - women want real choices and opportunities so that they can make decisions about what is best for them and their family throughout their lives.”
Tanya Plibersek (Shadow Minister for Women)

Australian women continue to experience disadvantage in employment, education, and healthcare. Labor’s innovative policies in these important areas demonstrate a commitment to improving women’s choices and opportunities.

Recently, members of the Young Labor Women's Network attended the launch of the Australian Labor Party's "Better Deal for Australian Women" at a suburban café. Toddlers played on brightly coloured climbing frames while mothers and other activist women enjoyed coffee and caramel slice. Those in attendance could have no doubt that Labor is the party of Australian women.

The NSW ALP is committed to representing women through a proud tradition of affirmative action measures. The full involvement of women is crucial for a strong and balanced Labor Party.

This is one of the key differences between the Liberal and Labor parties. The Liberal Party believe women will find equality eventually as long as they work hard enough, the ALP believes in levelling the playing field so that everyone has an equal opportunity to reach their potential.

As a result, one-third of Labor MPs in NSW Parliament are female. In contrast, just 15% of Coalition MPs are female.
